Bachelder reads poem during Writers Week
March 24, 2018
Spanish teacher Mr. Nathan Bachelder read his poem called “Mosquitos” during the 1st hour session of Writers Week on Wednesday, March 19.
Before he read his poem, he told the audience that it was not something new.
“Keep in mind, I wrote this poem sometime between my senior year in high school and my freshman year in college.”
After that statement, he began reading.
It started with: “Mosquitos, mosquitos, mosquitos, why are you so annoying?”
The audience laughed, but his 1st hour Spanish class was very proud of their teacher, and responded with loud cheers.
The poem was about his experience with the bugs since he “grew up in Alaska and there were a lot of mosquitos” he said.
It was very descriptive and well-written and personal to him and where he grew up.
When he was done presenting, he had to take his students back to the classroom for a Spanish lesson and did not stay for the other staff presenters and guest speaker Jessica Homann.
Unfortunately, that meant the audience could not ask him questions about his work, something that is special at the end of each session during Writers Week.
