UPDATE: Nate Martens stats were inaccurately reported in an earlier version of this story. His stats have been updated.

The varsity football team will be playing DeSmet Jesuit on Nov. 2 in the second round of the MSHSAA Class 6 playoffs. The game will be held at DeSmet with a kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Pattonville escaped Marquette 21-17 in the first round. It was a big scare for many, but with the help of the Pirates defense, they live to play another game.

On the other side of the bracket, DeSmet dominated Ritenour, 49-7. The Spartans running back Taj Butts had a total of 5 touchdowns.

DeSmet’s quarterback Nate Martens has thrown 18 touchdowns this season and has only been picked off for 6 interceptions. Overall, he has 96 completions on 156 attempts good for 1,638 yards.

Pattonville will have their hands full on defense stopping DeSmet’s high-powered drives, while the Pirates offense will need to pull together a passing and running game to control this contest.

Senior running back Sam Sanderson has been carrying the team with a total of 24 touchdowns on the season. He scored 3 touchdowns in last’s week victory over Marquette being targeted nine times (8 carries, 1 reception).

Senior quarterback Andre Webb went 3-for-7 in Friday’s weather-impacted game where the run was the primary call for the Pirates. During the 2018 campaign, Webb totaled 9 touchdowns during the regular season while throwing only 3 interceptions.

The playoff game will be hosted at DeSmet on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.
