The varsity boys volleyball team right now is No. 1 in the Class 4 state rankings put out by MaxPreps. Out of the 1,346 teams on the website, Pattonville is ranked 79th in the nation.

To open the season, they have a perfect record of 7-0 and placed first out of 16 teams in the Francis Howell Central tournament.

Sophomore libero Quentin Bartlett was shocked to find out about the state ranking.

“Coming into the season, I didn’t know what to expect, but after the first tournament and coming in first there, it felt good,” he said.

He said everyone has been sleeping on the Pirates.

“It felt good to come in first and to see MaxPreps ranked us No. 1 in the state is amazing,” Bartlett said. “If we continue to work hard and practice hard, I think we will stay No. 1 for a while.”

The volleyball team will plays its first District game of the season against Parkway Central on Friday in the main gym. The Colts are currently 0-1-2 and are ranked No. 12 in Missouri.

Freshman and JV starts at 4:15 p.m. and varsity will start at 5:30 p.m.
