Cheer Returns to Pattonville

Many have been wondering what the return of sports would look like at Pattonville in the midst of a pandemic. Some are skeptical about the safety of sports being held, considering the virus is airborne. However, others support the idea, saying it’s good for students to be able to get back into doing activities that they enjoy.

Pattonville’s cheerleading will practice more often than last season, with practices three days a week from 3 to 5pm, leaving some to query what cheer members themselves may think about this shift in schedules amid COVID concerns.

“I was a little nervous to cheer at games because although there isn’t a lot of people, it’s just kind of weird to be around a lot of people at once, but I’m not really that concerned,” Ian Bailey, a member of Pattonville’s Cheer, stated. “I really want to experience stunting and see how that goes because I’ve never done that before. I also really hope they do football in the spring because I want to cheer at those games as well.”

Ian also said some precautions that are being taken by the team to limit the spread of COVID-19. “We have to wear masks the entire practice. Also, we weren’t doing stunting before due to physical contact, but we’re starting that now.”

It’s no doubt that there is always a concern with COVID when it comes to social gatherings these days. However, with certain precautions being exerted, Pattonville is confident that it’s both the most suitable and desirable choice for students; that way, they can get back into sports and do what they’re passionate about without great concern.
