With winter sports paused over winter break, Girls’ Swimming and Diving has finished a little over half of the season.

Their last meet was on Tuesday, December 17, against Timberland High School. They were defeated 57-127. That brings the season’s overall record to 1-4.

Cara Raftery, junior, and Cora Hautekeete, senior, are this year’s leaders.

“I hope to grow as a swimmer with my team and get back down to my best time in the 500,” Cara stated.

“I would say that the best part of being a leader on Girls’ Swim would be being able to do it with my best friend and having the amazing team that I have to lead,” Cara added.

Cora Hautekeete hopes to set some personal goals in the 50 free and the 100 free this season.

“I am very happy I can compete because out of the three sports I do, swim is the only one I have been able to do all four years since track got canceled last spring,” Cora stated. “I wish we could do our regular team bonding activities but we know that it is not safe to do so.”

Laura Rockwell, sophomore, says that the best thing about swimming and diving is the competition. “It is amazing to see the dedication from all the teammates and other teams as well.”

“I hope to accomplish getting my inverted dive and skimming my time little by little,” Laura explained.

When it comes down to motivation, Laura thinks that what motivates her is the adrenaline knowing that a meet is coming up and it actually happening, or that it could get her noticed.

Cara Raftery also has some motivation: “Knowing that it is my last season really keeps me motivated.”

Cara added, “I am so grateful for Braswell and all of the things she has done for me over the last 10 years. I could not have asked for a better coach and mentor.”

Girls’ Swimming and Diving returns on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, against Webster Groves High School at 4 pm. Follow @PattonvilleAD on Twitter for the latest updated information about meets and spectator guidelines.
