With Thanksgiving just around the corner, many people are jumping headfirst into seasonal festivities. Thanksgiving is a historic holiday, but most celebrate with family and loved ones over a great meal. Many families gather with food on this day to express their love and thankfulness to one another while also adding their traditions.
With everyone going off to their own events on Thanksgiving day, many have started to find new ways to celebrate their friends as well. The term Friendsgiving is taking a rise among the youth. Friendsgiving is not an official holiday, but it is now making a surge in popularity nationwide, with different groups creating their own idea of what Friendsgiving means for them. Many refer to it as an earlier Thanksgiving celebration with just their friends.
For me, I’ll be gathering the weekend before Thanksgiving with my closest friends since we’ll all be with family and at other celebrations on Thanksgiving day. We are choosing to keep it classic with many traditional Thanksgiving foods but also adding our favorite non-seasonal dishes to the mix.
Most typical Thanksgiving dinners include the main course of a turkey followed by sides of green beans, gravy, stuffing, various casseroles, and lots of festive pies. Since every person has their own traditions and preferences, we will all be bringing a dish of our choice to share with the group alongside the classic Thanksgiving feast. I will be bringing Pasta, and a few others will bring fried chicken and an assortment of soups.
Friendsgiving is different for every friend group, but it allows many friends to gather together and celebrate the holiday however they choose. Friendsgiving has surged in popularity and has allowed an opportunity for tight-knit groups to also express their love and thankfulness while still sticking to their traditions.
