Next year Pattonville is tightening down on cell phone policy. This is consisten with many other area school districts that already have no cell phone policies in place or are moving towards them. Currently, 25 teachers are already piloting the no-phone policy which would make students put their phones in a pouch on a wall. Several students expressed their feelings about the new cell phone rules coming to Pattonville.
“I truly dislike it, I do think people should be on their phones less but I think there are other ways. I don’t really feel comfortable with not having my phone on me in case anything were to happen,” said senior Darion Nelson.
Other students share the same feelings and are uncomfortable with not having their phones on them.
“I understand why they’re doing it, but I still disagree. I think they should tighten down on it, but I don’t think making us put them in a pouch on a wall is the answer,” said senior Prince Nkoua.
Teachers and students seem to have different perspectives on the new phone policy.
“Since I’ve made students put their phones in pouches, I’ve noticed that students are much more engaged, and to me, that’s what’s most important. I’m glad that the whole school is on board I think it will overall be a positive outcome”, said English teacher Mrs.Ridings.
The building leadership team will share feedback from the pilot program with administrators before the end of the school year to determine the next steps regarding cell phones.
