Triple A held a Black History Month program called “Us Through Time” on Thursday, Feb. 27. The club took audience members through the arts of the 1920s with a tribute to Josephine Baker, and the 1960s with a rendition of “I Have a Dream” performed by special guest Mr. Ricky Jones and a performance by the Holman Step Team. The 1970s included a fashion show coordinated by students Lydia Nega and AJ Meredith and a praise dance featuring PHS graduate Jasmine Harris and current student Kristina Eaton. The show closed with a tribute to the 1990s with a “Tribute to 90s Sitcoms,” a rendition of “Killing Me Softly With His Song”, and a performance by the Triple-A Steppers led by captain Tyleah McCarter and Co-Captain Akira Kendrick.
The Triple A is sponsored by Ms. Tamika Duncan and Ms. Prisnice Watford. Members of the executive board include Gabby Hurd as the president, and Jamyra Blair as Vice President, and Natalie Smith, as Communication Officer.
When asked what she hopes people took away from the show, senior Natalie Smith stated “I hope people take away an appreciation for African American culture, and how we celebrate each other. As well as maybe finding something in common with one of the acts that we have, and allowing themselves to use that empowerment to embrace their own traits.”
The show was amazing and many people came to support the production. It was a wonderful way to close out February and celebrate Black History Month.
