Pattonville High School participates in a Child Development playschool program as part of the school’s Child Development course. This program provides hands-on teaching experience for high school students. PHS Family and Consumer Science teacher Tracie Olson has been the playschool director at Pattonville High School since 2019. Olson was asked what the hardest part of play school was, and she answered by saying, “Managing both high schoolers and play school kids at one time”. She also pointed out that her favorite thing about the program was watching the high school kids use the techniques they’ve learned on the play school kids in real time. She also enjoys returning the love from the play school kids.
Playschool graduation was held on May 6th and four kids graduated from the program this year.
If you’re interested in working one-on-one with kids, I definitely recommend signing up for Child Development 1 and 2. You’ll learn all about how kids grow socially, emotionally, and physically. These classes are really useful if you’re thinking about going into education.
