Bethany Buescher is Pattonville High School’s newest counselor, but she is no novice. This is Buescher’s 10th year as a school counselor. In between counseling jobs, Buescher worked in the community helping those who have experienced sexual violence and abuse. On top of this, Buescher worked as a therapist before becoming a school counselor.
What made you decide to come to Pattonville?
“Well, I have wanted to work at Pattonville for a long time. I think that Pattonville is a really great school district and I love the diversity of the community. It’s important to me to work in a diverse community.”
What do you enjoy most about counseling?
“I just love helping people prepare for life, helping people learn skills to be successful in school and in life. I think that education is the future of our world, so anything that I can do to support [students] to feel confident and competent to be out in the world is really fulfilling.”
How has your experience as a therapist aided in your current position?
“I’m really glad that I did therapy before becoming a school counselor. I think it was really helpful in building my skills and helping me become better at working with students and families. Making people feel safe and comfortable is really important.”
