Many Pattonville students have already seen, heard, or read about the tragedy that occured April 15, during the Boston Marathon. Two bombs went off, killing 3 people and injuring thousands. Two more bombs were later found and were dismantled before exploding.
But what kind of psychotic mind would intentionally attempt to injure innocent people? President Obama stated on Monday night, after the attack, “We still don’t know who did this or why. People should not jump to conclusions before we have all facts. But make no mistake. We will get to the bottom of this. Any individual or responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice.”
While the attacker is still unknown, the damage that was left behind is not. Three individuals have died, including an 8-year-old boy who was standing at the finish line, and thousands injured.
“It’s disgusting to think someone is insane enough to want to end the lives of so many innocent people,” senior Rhiannon Beckley said.
Among the injured was a 2-year-old boy who was admitted to a local intensive care unit for serious trauma to the head. It was later found that many minor injuries were from flying debris from the explosions, which resulted in many hospital admissions in order to help out the wounded bomb victims.
“To think that one explosion can cause so many injuries to so many different people is terrifying,” senior Asiah Allen said. “It makes me really nervous to think about if something that serious were to happen around here.”
