As the school year progresses into second semester, College Counselor Julie Kampschroeder advises all students to begin preparing for college. “Santa” Kampschroeder has devised her own ‘Holiday List’ of the steps she would like students to take, especially by the time they become upperclassmen.
The “Nice” List
- Search online for colleges.
- Get college visit forms in advance. They are located in the front office, and can only be used twice in a semester.
- Actually make college visits, which are best done when schools are in session.
- Be thinking about the type of school that fits you, consider distance, how social you plan to be, size, if a school is conservative or liberal, etc.
- Keep an open mind as to where you’re looking.
- Take the PSAT, ACT, and SAT.
- Take an active role – don’t wait around, and make appointments with Mrs. Kampschroeder.
The “Naughty” List
- Picking colleges seen on TV without any research done.
- Being irresponsible about homework.
- Not thinking about college visits until senior year.
- Picking a major in college without any previous consideration.
- Going where your ‘significant other’ is going.
- Never reviewing for the ACT.
- Being an inactive student in the classroom.
