In previous years Pattonville’s Key Club International has participated in a fundraiser called Stop the Bop. A song is played during passing period, and goal is set to raise money for a chosen charity. Once the goal is met, the song is stopped.
Several renditions of Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ have been played throughout the week. “Even if we don’t meet our goal of $500 the music will more than likely stop at the end of the week,” future secretary Abby Prueitt said.
Key Club has changed their motives this year. Instead of fundraising for a charity, the club is keeping the money for themselves.
“It changes the means to want to donate. Key Club is all about helping others so if they’re helping themselves it ruins the significance. Originally, it was to fundraise for charity, but now its for themseleves,” Mentor of Fundraising, Emily Gualdoni said.
