Womack playing a key role on the soccer and football teams this fall

Already a champion in one fall sport this season, senior Taylor Womack has also been having success with another game.

Womack and the Pirate’s varsity football team have a chance of becoming the first football team in school history to win the state title.

But this isn’t Womack’s first taste of a championship. He has won back-to-back district titles with the varsity boys’ soccer team and played in sectionals for the past two years as the varsity goalkeeper.

Womack could be the first Pirate to become a district champion in one sport and a state champion in another in the same season.

Taylor Womack makes a save during a soccer game at Pattonville.

“It’s crazy that I have the opportunity to do something very few people have done before,” Womack said. “Winning districts in soccer was one thing because I was with all of my friends that I’ve been playing with all my life and we did something special. But football is completely different because we have a chance to make school history and we would get a pretty cool ring if we win.”

The Pirates last claimed a football district title in 2011 and the newfound success on their state championship run is because the team has great camaraderie. Womack said this team is not like football teams of the past at Pattonville.

“I think we are successful because this is a much more tight knit group that doesn’t pick fights with each other or bring each other down,” he said. “When one of us scores or makes a big play, we all get excited and hyped up.”

The Pirates will play for the state title on Saturday, Nov. 25, at Mizzou against Staley High School. You can listen to the action by liking PattonvilleTODAY on Facebook. The game will be announced by the Pirates Sports Net broadcasters.
