Streeter seeks to win District titles in field events

Dakari Streeter stands on the top of the winner’s stand after winning 1st place in his event.

Senior Dakari Streeter is not only an all-state football player, but an accomplished track and field athlete who holds a school record for discus.

Streeter currently holds the school record in men’s discus with a throw of 165 feet.

The outstanding athlete takes a substantial amount of time practicing his craft to achieve great accolades.

“I prepare for meets first by getting my mind right for what I’m about to do,” he said. “I listen to music and stretch a lot so I can get loose and do a few drills to help me prepare for what I have to do.”

This year’s track and field District competition will be held at Pattonville on Saturday, May 11. According to Streeter, he has some specific goals he wishes to accomplish.

“My goal for Districts is to make it through in all three of my events. Another goal I have is to break the shot put record,” he said. “Since I’ve been trying a new technique, I’ve been throwing it farther so I expect to break it.”

Throwing farther and reaching his expected goal is a lot, but Streeter seems like he have high expectations to reach them.

“I do hold high expectations for myself since it’s my last season, but my expectations would have been the same even if I didn’t break the discus record.”

For an athlete to participate in many events, it takes a lot of time, dedication and preparation.

“Every day I try to focus on two of the three events because it takes a lot of hard work to practice events I’m expected to do exceptional in because of my past PRs.”
