The volleyball team lines up for the singing of the National Anthem before a home match.

The Pirates volleyball team is looking pretty good this year, and it’s not just because they got new uniforms.

Pattonville took down Parkway North (25-13, 25-21) and then just a day later, shot down the Hawks of Hazelwood Central (25-14, 25-20). Both wins were won in straight sets.

The girls’ varsity program wore their new uniforms in the home match win against Hazelwood Central. The freshman and JV teams also won in straight sets against the Hawks.

Senior volleyball player Helen Nelson was selected at the Pirates Sports Net Athlete of the Week presented by Hair Saloon for Men and FastSigns of Bridgeton for her efforts in the games this week.

“These past few games gave our younger players a chance to play and they were totally awesome,” Nelson said. “They really stepped up and helped us win.”

With back-to-back wins, Pattonville moves to 3-2, also picking up a road win against Ladue in straight sets earlier in the season.

Pattonville next plays at Fox High School on Sept. 10 and will return home on Sept. 12 to host Seckman. Both matches are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
