Do you want to know more about your counselors? They want to know more about you.
Ms. Harris, a counselor at Pattonville High School, said she wants students to start feeling more comfortable about coming to talk to the counselors.
Some advice Ms. Harris has for the freshmen class is “avoid the drama, pass all your classes, and get involved so you can feel more a part of the school and surround yourself with new people.”
Ms. Harris wants everyone to know that the counselors are not just there for credits and schedules. They really are concerned and want to help with your problems and earn your trust.
So to help students feel more comfortable talking with her, here is a little bit about Ms. Harris.
Jaida Coleman: What do you like most about your job?
Ms. Harris: Being able to take time with teenagers and help them with big life choices such as dating, conflicts, etc.
JC: What do you like the least about your job?
H: All the paperwork.
JC: What don’t you like about your job?
H: I don’t like when people are hateful, judgmental, and prejudice and when they form opinions about someone without really getting to know them first.
JC: Would you change anything about your past?
H: No, every regret or problem I have ever had has helped me learn from it.
JC: What’s a regular day like for you when you leave here?
H: I go home and help my kids with homework, cooking, and just mainly spending time with my kids. I’m in ‘full mommy mode.”
Something that most people don’t know about Ms.Harris is that she’s like a boy when it comes to cars. She likes fast sporty cars. She said she would like to go to one of the NASCAR camps where they can train people how to drive a racecar and prepare them to to race it.
“I would like to do that before I die,” she said.
