Shane McAtee is a senior at Pattonville. He is currently on the varsity football team. He played football before, but chose to take a break from it for a while. I decided to ask him a few questions regarding why he took a few years off, and how his life has changed since then.
Have you ever played football besides this year?
“Yes. I played in 8th and 9th grade. I decided to quit playing for a while to focus on my grades, including debate. I also managed to get a job, but after a while, I started to miss football.”
What position do you play?
“I play right tackle and nose guard.”
Are you excited for this season, new team, and the new field?
“Yes. I think we’re going to have a great team this year. Despite the fact that we got beat by Kirkwood in our first game, I think we’re going to have an above .500 record. The field is really neat; we’re really privileged to play on such a nice field because a lot of schools don’t have this. I think it will give everyone on the team an opportunity to perform well, and make our school proud.”
Who do you think your biggest rivals will be?
“Probably Ritenour. I think we can beat them easily, but just like all the other years, I think they’ll be our rival.”
Has playing football interfered with your life outside of school?
“It definitely has with practice. I used to have a lot of time to hang out with friends, but now I have the chance to make new friends on the team, and we get to hang out on the field and in the locker room.”
