Aiming for Districts, the Lady Pirates Softball team gets another hit in their September 10 game against St. Charles High. The hit helped them achieve their 11-0 victory.

Just under .500, the Lady Pirates softball team is tearing up the bases. With the season over halfway complete, the team is aiming to make a play for Districts.

One of the keys to the team’s success will be staying healthy. “I would like to see our pitching stay healthy, our hitters to develop into the best hitters they can be, and lastly our defense to be consistent from one game to the next,” Coach Simpson said.
Their biggest accomplishments so far this season was “we finished 4th in the Parkway tournament out of 12 teams. They also “finished 2nd in the Zumwalt East tournament last weekend,” Coach Simpson said.

Three words that Coach Simpson would use to describe the team is “coachable, competitive, and fun.” He explained that “they are just coachable because they are good listeners and try hard to improve. They like to compete no matter who we are playing and they just like to get out there and win. They are a very enjoyable group of girls to be around.”
In order for the season to count as a successful one Coach Simpson wants to “win Districts because I know we’re capable of winning it.”

Junior Allison Schrumpf is one of the team captains. She explained the goals for the team and herself: “Just to stay competitive in all the games we play, no matter if we win or lose. Just keep the games close.” She would also like “to create a better team atmosphere to keep everyone positive.”
Schrumpf’s biggest strengths in softball are “hitting and making decisions for myself instead of being told what to do,” Schrumpf said.

Even though the season is coming to an end, there is still much to accomplish. “I hope to make it past the first game in Districts because we didn’t do great in the past year and I think we have potential,” said Schrumpf.
The Lady Pirates are ready to hit their way into Districts on October 12, 2021.
