The Pattonville Pirate Players 2025 musical was performed from February 13 through 15, and the stress was high for the cast and crew. The company was preparing for its performance during Tech Week, the week before a show where the show is rehearsed with full technology and show equipment. During tech week, many actors are called to rehearse for many hours. For Junior Esme Hurlbut, tech week is a highlight of the experience but also entails lots of stress.
“We have a lot of people who are wearing the same costumes and are currently trying to figure out what costume fits what character best and what looks best for everyone. Monday is a full run and then Tuesday is our night rehearsal with full costumes and makeup and it’s like running the full show for the first time,” said Hurlbut.
One of the benefits of Tech Week is allowing the performers to step into their characters.
“My favorite part of tech week is probably learning to get into character and really going through the flow and learning to react and bring my character to life,” said Hurlbut
This show was quite different from previous productions, as it is not a recognizable title for many viewers. Compared to The Little Mermaid, The Wizard of Oz, or Shrek, which are all familiar shows to the community, this show is mostly unheard of.
“It’s kind of a struggle that the show is so out of the box and nobody really knows what’s going on, and so people are walking into the show not knowing a whole bunch and have never heard of it before,” said Hurlbut
The spring musical, directed by theater teacher Lara Corvera, clarifies “The main character Bobby is looking for his perfect performance opportunity and finds it in Deadrock Nevada despite always having Broadway dreams.” Said Corvera.
The show ran its last production in its set on February 16, closing out the three days of performances.
