The winter season has ended. As athletes jump into spring sports and look forward to the end of the school year, we focus on the coaches who supported them through the challenges. As awards and recognitions continue to roll in, we spoke with these dedicated leaders about the successes and difficulties of the season and the important lessons they learned.
Boys Varsity Basketball
If you could describe your season in one word what would it be and why?
“Exciting, because we played a lot of close basketball games this season. We had 5 overtime games and another 2-3 very close games,” said head coach, Travis Harris.
As you look to next season, what are you looking forward to and how could your athletes grow in the off season?
“We have a lot of our team coming back. We had three seniors this year. Our JV team did some good things and our freshman team had a very good season with only losing two games. So, I am looking forward to combining all that talent that we have in the program and putting in the necessary work on and off the court during the spring and the summer in order to get the program on track as far as wins and losses go next season and other seasons to come, while also helping the students learn life lessons and become men.” said head coach, Travis Harris.
Girls Basketball
As you look to next season, what are you looking forward to and how could your athletes grow in the off season?
“This team is losing 3 seniors which means there are a lot of minutes up for grabs. There is a great opportunity and responsibility of the younger players to work on their games to increase their skills. To do this they will need to have discipline to put in the time and energy to increase their skill levels over the summer. I hope they embrace the message of reliably consistent vs occasionally extraordinary,” said coach Adam Ketcherside.

“Know your worth. Stay positive. Work hard. Believe in yourself. Trust God. And know that I will always be in your corner,” said coach Tiffanne Becks.
“I wish I could have been around them longer. I have enjoyed their individual spirit and the individual skill set they bring to the game of baseketball. My hope for them is that they continue to grow and adapt as young adults and I hope they know that our coaching staff is always a resource for them. Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate. Thank you, seniors,” said coach Ketcherside.

“Rewarding! We had a huge amount of girls brand new to the sport and watching them improve and grow over the season as swimmers and divers was awesome! It was also great to see our returning athletes excel!” said head coach Anna Braswell.
