Whether it’s before school starts, during passing time, at lunch, or secretly in class, cell phones are a big part of the school day.
One of the problems is that there are areas where students have trouble getting service. These are the places where students just feel like throwing their phone against the wall.
“I get the worst service in the commons,” said Haley Raftery, a freshman, “But luckily there isn’t any place in the school where I just don’t get any service at all.”
The common places to get bad service may be the commons, the F wing, the orchestra, band, and choir rooms, or the cafeteria.
Unfortunately, some of those places are where students are actually allowed to openly use their phones.
A lot, if not most students who use their phones during school text instead of call.
“I usually text… but only during passing periods… most of the time,” said Raftery.
Sometimes though, just texting can cause plenty of problems for students if they don’t have good enough service.
“One time, I texted my mom but it didn’t send so she didn’t pick me up from school. I was just up here chilling,” said Melina Custer, freshman.
Of course, how well a student can get a message out from their phone also depends on their service. Students may have AT&T, T-mobile, Sprint, Verizon, or other phone services that may or may not give them trouble in the school.
“My mom kept trying to call me but I couldn’t get good enough service so I wasn’t able to answer and she yelled at me later,” said Raftery.
