As a new school year begins and both students and teachers become acquainted with their surroundings, many organizations such as International Club prepare for an eventful year. International Club is a club that is designed for both international and American students to socialize with one another and serve the community, and it has been at Pattonville for at least 10 years.
International Club has benefited many students, as it has been a center for people of various backgrounds to connect, and has provided students with opportunities to participate in annual events such as International Day.
“International Day is a day where as a club, we get to share specific aspects of our culture with the school body. It can include dances, singing, and fashion,” said Ms. Odetta Fields, an English teacher and the adviser of International Club.
Fields notes that unique aspects of International Club are the hosting of International Day, as well as the fact that “the club has students from well-over 10 different countries that regularly attend meetings.”
Students have expressed the impact of the club as well. Junior and recently appointed vice president, Camille Hernandez, said she enjoys many of the club’s benefits.
“I’ve been in International Club for two years, now going on three,” Hernandez said. “It’s like a good, never-ending relationship.”
As vice president of the club, she and the president, senior Victor Maganda, often perform larger tasks, such as informing others about the club, and giving instructions to club members.
Hernandez feels that the club has impacted her in many ways.
“I’ve met amazing people from all over the world that give color to International Club. We’re always searching for talented individuals and that means anyone and everyone.”
