MULTIMEDIA Winter sports at Pattonville are in action

There are only three sports that are played during the winter at Pattonville High School: Basketball (boys and girls), wrestling (boys and girls), and swimming (girls).

Pattonville boys’ basketball has only won one game this year that came in the GAC Suburban Basketball Challenge. They played Warrenton and won with a score of 78-59 at Lindenwood University in this 4-day event. During that game, senior guard Andre Webb led four Pirates in double figures with a career-high of 20 points.

The Pattonville girls’ basketball team, however, is totally dominating this season. Senior Kendall Battle, said, “I think we are playing so well this season because we have great team chemistry and everybody gets along so well. It feels great knowing we have the potential to be great this season.” They are 5-1 so far this season with wins against McCluer, Clayton, Parkway West, Hazelwood East and Fort Zumwalt North. The only team that they have lost to so far is Lutheran St. Charles in the championship game of a tournament by a score of 66-48.

The boys’ wrestling team has been competing at several meets and tournaments. Boys wrestling did lose to Webster Groves on Dec. 5 with a score of 38-33 and to Hazelwood West on Dec. 12 with a score of 50-28. Senior Mason Murphy said, “It’s a really fun supporting team to be a part of this year. I’m glad I get the opportunity to lead it.” There are only a few strictly varsity wrestlers but most of them have placed at least in one tournament so far.

The girls’ wrestling season is going much better than it started out and they are getting the hang of it since they are a brand-new team competing at Pattonville. They took first place overall at the Fort Zumwalt East Invitational and every single one of them received a medal. The girls competed against Webster Groves on Dec. 5 and tied with a score of 6-6.

The Pattonville girls’ swim team has had two tri-meets so far this season and three regular meets. They took first place against Hazelwood Central and took second place against Francis Howell. However, the Pattonville girls swim did lose to Ladue and Webster Groves.
