Pattonville community goes to the ballot to vote on Prop P

P.Logo_.Sq_.Small_On Nov. 5, voters will be asked to vote on Proposition P.

Proposition P is a tax rate increase of $0.9972, But due to St. Louis County’s tax rate system, Pattonville will be able to limit the tax increase to 35 cents for residential homeowners for as long as possible.

St. Louis is the only county in Missouri that levies property taxes by type of property like Residential, Commercial, Personal, and Agricultural.

The increase in taxes is needed for the school because Pattonville can no longer keep up with declining revenues. There have been many budget cuts in the past years including getting rid of planners and putting them online and on the school laptops, instead of printing a planner for each student, but more cuts will be needed.

If Prop P does not pass, Pattonville will not have sufficient funds for any extra curricular activities such as sports for the students, meaning if a student wants to play a sport, they are going to have to pay to play.

Another budget cut is that if a student lives 3 miles or less away from the high school, they’ll have to find a ride or walk because Pattonville would no longer be able to afford transportation.
