STUCO Adopts a Family

The holiday season becomes hectic with shopping, family gatherings and finals that we tend to forget those less fortunate. This year, Student Council decided to adopt two families for the holidays.

“Every year we try to do a service project in the winter since it isn’t a busy time for STUCO,” Nathan Samples, Student Council president said. “We decided to adopt a family because the holidays are about giving and what better way then to help a family during the Christmas season?”

The proceeds made from the fall dodge ball tournament were used to help buy gifts for the two families.

After receiving a list from the families, members from the club went out to stores such as Kohl’s and Target to get the gifts.

“I tried to pick out gifts that I think a kid would like,” Maddi Gamache, sophomore, said when she picked out a remote controlled helicopter. The presents chosen varied from a karaoke machine to soccer balls.

After bringing the presents back to school, different student council members took over and wrapped all the gifts.

“It feels good to know that you are helping others and making someone’s Christmas even more enjoyable,” Michelle Cummings, junior, said.

In the next few days the gifts will be delivered to the families.
