Pattonville is introducing My Tie, a new dance offered to Pattonville students, for the first time, but many students are not purchasing tickets putting the dance in jeopardy.
My Tie is scheduled to be held directly after Mr. PHS on Feb. 21. Mr. PHS will happen from 6-8 p.m., and My Tie will last for 2 hours, ending at 10 p.m.
As all fines must be paid must be paid in full, students needing to have 90% attendance and many students questioning what to wear and whether or not to wear their dance outfits to Mr. PHS since the two events will be directly after one another, it has caused a lot of confusion.
Because of that, Student Council is having a lot of trouble selling enough tickets for it to be an appropriate dance.
Sophomore Nathalie Solorio said there is a lack of interest. As of lunch on Friday, tickets numbered in the 40s were being sold but “we need at least 200 sold to have the dance, so buy tickets now!”
Senior Nathan Samples thinks people aren’t interested in the dance because he thinks students don’t want to stay at school for that long. Other reasons may include the fear of girls asking guys, the fact students can’t bring guests that do not go to Pattonville, and that it doesn’t seem very official.
“At this point, I hope there is a dance,” Samples said. “It’s honestly more like a mixer than a dance, because there isn’t that much decorations like Homecoming.”
Solorio, Samples and the Student Council team have put in a lot of work planning this dance, so they hope that students start buying their tickets soon.
As a result, ticket sales have been extended to Tuesday, Feb. 11, and will be available during all lunches. All Pattonville students are encouraged to buy their tickets by then so the dance can still be in effect. Students can buy a ticket to the dance and Mr. PHS for $8, and tickets for the dance only are available for $5.
