After many questions were raised on if the My Tie Dance would even happen because of slow ticket sales, many students were excited to hear that it was made official.

The dance, scheduled for Feb. 21 immediately after Mr. PHS, was a good idea but Mr. PHS ran long, cutting the dance short.

“The dance was not good, there was like nobody there,” sophomore Jillian Winchell said. “There weren’t really any decorations inside the gym either.”

Students are already wondering whether or not the dance will return next year.

Due to the fact that STUCO barely got the 200 students required to attend to even hold the dance, the organization is trying to decide on what their next step is for next year.

Sophomore Natalie Siegel stated, “I think they will have the dance next year, but I think there will be some changes made.”

Siegel said the changes will most likely be the date, making a distinct theme and making it formal since the whole semi-formal dress code confused everyone.

Another rule that was enforced by the administration was only Pattonville students were allowed to attend the 2-hour dance.

She added, “I don’t know if it will still be considered the My Tie dance or something new.”

Other students felt the same way as Winchell and Siegel.

For example, junior Megan Anth felt there needed to be more people at the dance.

“Since Mr. PHS went at least 45 minutes over the scheduled end time (8 p.m.), it didn’t leave much time for the dance.”

Due to the fact Mr. PHS ran too long, students were arriving to the dance at different times, originally slated to begin at 8 p.m. with no students allowed to enter after 8:30 p.m. But because of the ending time of Mr. PHS, that was extended and students were asked to leave the auditorium and head immediately to the dance. The dance still ended at the scheduled time of 10 p.m.

Anth added, “Hopefully next year we will be able to bring people from other schools and that will attract more students.”

Other students thought the dance went very well.

For example, STUCO historian junior Hannah Saputo said, “For being the first winter dance Pattonville has had, I think it went overall pretty well.”

Saputo thinks the dance was a lot of fun and she is excited for what may come next year.

Saputo did admit that she thinks it should be its own event and not after Mr. PHS, which she said they are discussing for next year’s winter dance.
