Teachers receive new classroom furniture
New classroom furniture started being delivered to teachers at the beginning of second semester.
Earlier this year, administrators told teachers to make up a wish list of items they would like in their room. The deal was if it fit in the budget and it was available, then they could get their desired furniture.
English teacher Ms. Katie Funderburk wanted to replace the standard student desks she had in her room and received all new tables, chairs and a new teacher desk.
“I wanted mobile stuff so it could be reconfigured into different shapes and figures based on what we are doing that day,” Funderburk said.
She said the mobile tables and chairs will be ideal for Socratic seminars and group work and that the new furniture has been a success so far.
“Teachers want more streamlined furniture and that’s what they received.”
Mr. Shaun Patrick in the history department enjoys implementing group work into his lessons and likes how the new furniture allows more flexibility in his classroom.
“I like my students having the ability to collaborate.”
For this reason, Patrick decided to order triangular desks that allow students to push them together to form groups.
The cafeteria was the staging area for the new furniture and classrooms are still in the process of being filled with the new equipment.
