More than 3,500 runners laced up their shoes and completed the 13.1 mile GO! St. Louis Half Marathon on Sunday, April 9, in downtown St. Louis. Included in that number were 27 students and four teachers from Pattonville who were part of a high school club and ran with Students on the GO!

Students on the GO! is a team-based fitness program to engage high school students in the St. Louis bi-state region to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. The program provides students with an opportunity to focus on accomplishing challenging fitness goals, such as completing 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon events throughout the year. The program engages students to experience the benefits of goal setting, discipline, teamwork, improved health and a feeling of accomplishment in a positive environment.

In 2018, GO! St. Louis partnered with 16 St. Louis area high schools including Pattonville High School and had a total of 228 runners participate in the program.

Club sponsor Ms. Shelley Christian led students along as they followed a 20-week incremental training program. The GO! St. Louis staff, along with outside experts, supported the team members with motivation, nutrition tips and training tools to carry out the program. Students trained a few days a week after school and then completed one weekly long run on Saturdays in Forest Park.

This year, 27 students and four teachers finished the GO! St. Louis Half Marathon. Results were posted online and more race details are available by searching the runner’s name by clicking this link.
