The time is now. The St. Louis Blues are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs once again for the fifth year in a row. Although success in the regular season has led many fans to believe a Stanley Cup is imminent, the Blues have failed to get out of the first round each of the past three seasons. In each of those years, the Blues have been the higher seed losing to the Kings, Blackhawks, and Wild.
Some students around Pattonville are optimistic this time around about the Blues chances to advance deep into the postseason.
“100 percent the Blues are going to beat the Blackhawks and win the Cup,” senior Alex Caldwell said.
Other students aren’t as positive because of the Blues recent struggles in the playoffs.
“I’m not saying we won’t beat the Blackhawks,” junior Jacob Resse said, “but we just won’t win the Stanley Cup because of past history.”
The Blues have previously had very tough draws in the first round including the Kings and Blackhawks, two teams that have dominated the Western Conference and won the past four Stanley Cups. They will need to find a way to score goals against the Blackhawks, something they have struggled to do in the previous three postseasons.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs start Wednesday, April 13, with the Blues hosting Game 1 at the Scottrade Center at 8:30 p.m. The game can be seen on Fox Sports Midwest.
