Students will follow an abnormal schedule to finish first semester

Pattonville Debate and Speech will host the Randy Pierce Winter Classic Speech and Debate Tournament on Dec. 9-10. The early release on Friday will allow competitions to begin immediately after school.

First semester is almost over and with it comes a unique schedule. EOC tests were last week which called for an unusual bell schedule and consisted of some classes being 110 minutes long.

This week has another abnormal schedule. It is an A, A, A, B, C Week with a 2:13 dismissal Monday through Thursday, and a 1:14 dismissal on Friday, December 9.

This change is because the high school is hosting the 41st Annual Pattonville Speech and Debate Tournament this weekend that starts on Friday.

“We host this tournament every year,” debate teacher and coach Ms. Jennifer Raymond said. “There will be 25 schools and about 400 students that come through during the whole weekend.”

She stated that the tournament starts on Friday and with so many other schools and students coming in, it is better to have an early release on Friday so that Pattonville students aren’t on campus if they don’t have to be.

The following week will also be abnormal due to the beginning of finals. All days will be normal except for Friday.

Students will go to 1st hour for a 41-minute review session and then take their 2nd hour final exam for 90 minutes. The rest of the day’s classes will be shortened to allow for reviews.

The remainder of the finals will be taken during half days the following Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday which will then conclude the first semester of the 2016-17 school year.
