Steve Templeton, KMOV’s chief meteorologist posted on Twitter on Wednesday that a wind chill advisory was in effect tonight through Thursday a.m. Wind chills in the area could reach as low as -20 degrees.
When @phsTODAY quoted him in a tweet asking students if this could mean a snow day, Templeton responded and said, “Depends on the school. We’re running a story on that at 10, lots of emails going out to warn parents, make sure kids are bundled.”
The following message from Superintendent Mike Fulton was emailed to parents and posted on the district’s website Wednesday night:
“Dear Parents,
Tomorrow, as you likely know, the forecast calls for cold temperatures and includes a wind chill advisory. The advisory is scheduled to end at noon tomorrow. We take such advisories seriously and use that information to help inform our decision about closing school. Based on current information we do plan to have school tomorrow.
When such advisories exist, it is very important that students dress appropriately in order to stay safe. This includes dressing in layers, covering bare skin including hands and face, and having appropriate foot wear. Also, we encourage parents to make arrangement to avoid long waits outside at bus stops. Bus stops are a particular concern so we encourage parents to take those steps necessary to ensure your child’s safety.
Should conditions change overnight and we decide to close school we will notify you through the normal processes (phone messaging, media outlets, web site, etc).
Thank you for taking time to review this message.
Sincerely,
Mike Fulton
Superintendent
Pattonville School District”
