Counselors celebrated on National Counselor’s Day

IMG_2785

At Pattonville High School, the counselors are there for students and staff every day. Today, the students and staff honor them because Feb. 4 is National Counselor’s Day.

“It is a day that you recognize counselors,” Ms. Stacey Thomas said.

Thomas said the role of a counselor in the school is both for academic and emotional needs.

“We talk with students when they have a difficulty, they’re having anxiety or having problems with another student,” Thomas said. “We are also academic advisers since we work with students on their class schedules and their grades. We also write 504 Plans (special accommodations received by students with disabilities to ensure academic success) if they need help in school.”

Thomas thinks having counselors in schools are imperative.

“It helps with the emotional issues,” Thomas said. “The counselor’s office is a safe place for kids to go to get support immediately in a school setting opposed to having to go somewhere outside the school.”

The counselors at Pattonville are:

Jenni Egan – A-Da

Brooke Michel – De-Hy

Anetra Chapman – I-My

Trudy Steins – N-Sc

Sue Caimi – Se-Z

Stacey Thomas – Senior Counselor

Julie Kanpschroeder – College Counselor

Rebecca Krohn – Counselor/A+ Program/ Community Service

Charlene Mair – Registrar

Patty Patrick – Secretary

Kim Miller – PowerSchool Specialist
