Sleeping in, watching movies, going sledding, drinking hot chocolate; these are all activities that students and staff at PHS have enjoyed during the numerous snow days this year, yet one too many days off is causing the school to be back in session on a spring holiday.
“Snow days are a lot of fun while they last, but it’s not so much fun when we end up having to make them up,” said sophomore Julie Halveland.
While Pattonville School District builds six snow days into the annual calendar, the high school has been closed a total of seven days this year due to inclement weather.
Everyone in the district will now attend school on Good Friday, April 18, 2014, as an alternative to adding on school days at the end of the year.
“I don’t mind going to school on a spring holiday that much because it is one less day we have to make up in the summer,” stated Halveland.
Currently, the last day for seniors is May 29 and the last day in attendance for everyone else is June 2.
Let’s hope this spring doesn’t bring the same cold, snowy weather it did last year, or students and staff could find their summer starting to get shorter.
