The Pattonville craft fair was held on Saturday, Dec. 3, This annual event has been hosted by the Pattonville Band Booster Association for over 30 years. There are over 200 arts and craft vendors that attend this event and some have turned their hobby into a business.
One of the vendors, Mr. Jeff Hornung, is a wood craftsman and is also an alum from Pattonville High School. He started wood-turning when he suffered minor brain damage from a car crash. He felt like he needed something to help him focus and his wife suggested a trip to John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina. There he picked wood-turning and took a liking to it.
“My head stopped hurting so I started doing it as a hobby,” Hornung said. “When someone asked if I could make them a pen for money, I decided to start The Walnut Log as my very own business.”
He currently has a shop located at 3627 Ange, Florissant, Missouri, 63034, and has a website that provides more information about him and his pieces at www.TheWalnutLog.com.
Also at the Arts and Crafts Fair was Mr. Mike Smith who sold custom Marshmallow Launchers. He too started it as a hobby and later began selling the items at arts and crafts fairs around the country.
“I got bored of retirement.”
He came to Pattonville’s craft fair because he sold here before and thought it was a good school to sell at.
He came all the way from Okawville, Illinois, and takes orders by email: [email protected].
