At Pattonville, being in the marching band doesn’t involve the usual “band geek” stereotype. Aubrey Wenzel said, “Being a band geek is totally in right now.”
Wenzel said, “While it’s a lot of fun, being in the Pride of Pattonville Marching Band takes a lot of hard work and dedication.”
This is Wenzel’s first year being in the Pattonville marching band. She takes part in not only marching, but also the leadership team and organizing and distributing music for the band.
When compared to other members of the band, Wenzel has to make a little bit more of a commute then some. Living in Warrington (45 minutes away), Wenzel must get up at 4:45 a.m. in order to make it to early morning practice every day, which starts at 6:45 a.m. on the new football field.
When asked what she enjoys most about marching band, Wenzel answers “The people. Definitely.” Wenzel said that being around such a great group of students and friends inspires her. “We are all pretty much a big family. Every one is always willing to help out, whether it’s with homework, tutoring, or getting rides to somewhere.”
She first joined band because she thought it sounded like a cool thing to do and “I stuck with it because my love for the music and people made me realize that this is what I wanted to do.”
