6 minutes for some is not enough time

Pattonville Senior High School is a school that prides itself on the Pirate Code that it has created for the school to follow: Be responsible, Be respectful, and Be Involved.

The regular school day, which is an A-Day, consists of seven class periods with 6 minutes in-between each to serve as a transition to the next period.

Within this time that students have to transition, they also must use this time to use the restroom, go to their locker or any other activities, and still make it to class on time.

Pattonville has a strict tardy policy, being once the bell rings for that period, students must be in the class that they are assigned to and in their seat by the bell or they will be counted as tardy. Once a student accumulates four tardies, they are assigned a detention by their assistant principal.

However, students find it difficult sometimes to transition and do other activities with only 6 minutes to spare.

Lindsey Morrow, freshman, shares her feelings on passing time and how she feels that there should be more minutes added onto passing time.

Referring to making passing time longer, she says she doesn’t think that 6 minutes is long enough for passing time, and that her locker is not in close proximity to her classes which causes her to sometimes have to rush from the very back of the school to the front or vice versa and still make it to class on time.

Detentions have been on the rise this semester due to students not conforming to the six minutes that they have. Morrow does admit that at times she doesn’t always use her time wisely and she sometimes may stop and talk to a friend or two, but understands the principle of using her time wisely.

Morrow wants to see more minutes added onto passing time in the future, eventually seeing a decrease in detentions and more students getting to class on time.
