21-year-old girl trying to make it big in NASCAR

PattonvilleTODAY.com reporter Valerie Gradel takes a picture with NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Johnanna Long.

21-year-old Johnanna Long is not your typical 21 year old girl.

Many 21 year olds can’t say that they get to be in a NASCAR race every weekend. NASCAR stands for National Auto Stock Car Auto Racing, and the sport has three series. The lowest series is the Camping World Truck Series, the middle series is the Nationwide Series which Long races in, and the top series is the Sprint Cup Series.

In a recent interview, this is what Long had to say:

Q: What’s your ultimate goal to achieve in racing?

A: “My ultimate goal would probably be to make it to the Cup Series. I’ve been racing since I was 8 years old and it’s always been a dream of mine and it’s somthin’ I’m chasing really hard for.”

Q: What driver do you look up to?

A: “What driver? I don’t know. Everyone says this is the right answer to say, but I look up to all the guys in the Cup Series because that’s where I want to be someday, and it’s so hard to get there and once you get there it’s a big achievement.“

Q: “How hard is it to get a sponsor?“

A: “Um, it’s very hard to find the right person to give you a chance, to uh, believe in you, and it’s all about talking to the right people, and it’s so hard for everyone right now.“
