On Wednesday, August 30, the varsity girls volleyball team left with a win in their second game of the season against Parkway Central. The match-ending score was 3-1 during their first home game.Volleyball has a tryout process and something about volleyball in particular is special to a specific player.
“I started playing volleyball when I was in third grade and that’s when I had just started out with all of the sports to see what stuck and something just clicked,” senior Kylie Surrat said.
Surrat has been on the team since freshman year and has made it to varsity. What are her goals for this year?
“Get the third conference title, make a run in districts and set ourselves up for future successes,” Surrat said.
The student athletes have goals, but they aren’t the only ones. While dreaming about going for gold is important, it’s also important for the team to focus on the now instead of the later.
“I want to make sure that I’m enjoying the moment because sometimes I get a little too focused on skills or must win situations,” Coach Jennel Franken said.
After 20 years of coaching, Coach Franken continues to support the team. What keeps her going, you might ask?
“When I see my players playing with the same passion that I have for the sport,” Franken said.
