Life as a freshman means many brand new experiences

Walking into a brand new school on Aug. 12, seeing brand new faces and meeting brand new people can be difficult as a freshman in high school, Kelcie Rhone was one of many new students experiencing this on the first day of school.
She walked into the doors of Pattonville High School and did not know what to expect or what she would experience for the next four years of her life.
Coming from the Hazelwood School District to Pattonville, she made it very clear where she came from.
“No, I am not one of the transfer students,” Rhone said. “I had to move because of the tornado we had in Hazelwood.”
Rhone noticed there is a big difference between middle school and high school such as the many freedoms given to the students. Also, in middle school, all classes were separated by grade, but in high school, students can have a class with people from all different grade levels.
Rhone decides she likes many things about moving into high school. Some things she likes about high school are that she can buy lunch in any four different lines, being able to go and sit anywhere because there are many more designated eating areas, and there are more sport opportunities because she loves sports and wants to get a scholarship.
Rhone likes school but one class is a favorite above all others and that is Academic Lab because the class has people called PALs that are more than willing to help with her math, science, English and social studies work.
Rhone thought that the laptops were a distraction when she first thought of the idea, but now thinks they really come in handy because she can type her papers and do her work outside of school.
“Actually having a laptop is a good thing, because it makes doing your work easier,” Rhone said.
