Avigayil Levy is a sophomore at Pattonville and has been on the swim team since her freshman year.
“I swam last year, and then this summer,” Levy said. “I did dive team because of Kara. So this year, I did dive instead of swim.”
Her favorite thing about being on the dive team is “not having to swim lap after lap after lap.”
The reason Levy joined the swimming and diving team is because of her friends.
“All my friends were joining the team and that’s how I met Kara and that’s how we became best friends,” Levy said. “She was like, ‘Hey, join the dive team!’ and I said ‘Sure, why not? I guess it will be fun.’ I really love it now because my 6th grade social studies teacher is the coach, and we always joke around and have fun.”
She loves her team, and is very proud of them.
“My team’s awesome, there aren’t even words to describe my team. They’re crazy, I can tell you that much.”
She also thinks that the way Pattonville works with sports is better than other schools.
“The swim team is very spirited; we get really into it,” Levy said. “All we need now is Pirate Pete to come to our games.”
According to Levy, Pattonville puts a lot of time and effort into its sports making sure that they are to the level they should be.
“The coaches put time and effort into the sports, too,” Levy said.
The coaches make sure everyone’s doing what they’re supposed to be doing, like if an athlete’s grade who is involved in swim and dive falls below a 2.5, they don’t want you swimming and diving until it’s above a 2.5.
“They’re [the coaches] are like, ‘Go to tutoring, go get help, we understand.’ And they understand that we’re gonna be out for a while until we get our grades up.”
Levy, like a lot of people who have been to the new facility on campus, loves the new pool.
“That pool is like heaven. I love that pool with my life. I love it more than anything else.”
The swim and dive team’s season is going very well.
“Our season is going pretty good. We’ve won against all our conference teams so far. I think we’re gonna go undefeated.”
