After nearly a 45 minute delay to the game due to lightning in the 3rd quarter, Vianney spoiled the Pirate’s season opener winning 30-20 at Pattonville.
The Griffins (1-0) scored on their opening drive and the Pirates (0-1) never got a lead in the game.
Quarterback Kaleb Eleby rushed for a score to make it 7-6 and Ahmad Avery answered another Griffin score with a 61-yard touchdown run, but the 2-point conversion was no good. Vianney scored again before halftime taking a 21-12 lead into the locker rooms.
With 7:24 left in the 3rd quarter, the game was halted because of lightning in the area and the stadium was cleared.
Pattonville was able to score in the 4th quarter with a 32-yard catch by David Ellison, and the 2-point conversion created the final score of 30-20.
The Pirates hit the road to Mehlville next week. The game on Aug. 26 is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
