Boys swim and dive has started as several new and returning swimmers join. Recently, the team has pulled winning lap times against Fort Zumwalt West and Timberland.
“The season is looking pretty decent so far,” said junior Logan Monroe. “We have a lot more swimmers than last year and have already won a first and a second place in the two tri-meets we have swam.”
Although the team has received these various accolades, they still advertise and promote an all-inclusive environment — free for experienced and new swimmers alike to join and sharpen their skills.
“You can just join to have fun,” says sophomore Ethan Arana. “It’s exciting, interesting, and never really gets boring. It’s pretty fun and we all get along, we don’t get into arguments very often.”
Although the swim team flaunts their inclusivity for new players, many returning and new players are still well-versed in the art of swimming, according to Coach Anna Braswell.
“We have a lot of returning athletes this season, and a lot of new freshmen that came in with a lot of swimming experience and diving experience,” Braswell said.
Even with their experience, the athletes attribute their success to their coaches, Braswell and Thomas Crockett.
“They’re pretty good coaches, we wouldn’t have gotten far without them,” said Arana. “Our team is looking a lot better than last year since we got more players.”
Still, the team sticks to their self-proclaimed silliness, looking forward to the rest of the season and still advertising for others to join.
“I look forward to one meet; we have at the end of the year where it’s all wacky relays,” said Monroe. “They have the basic relays, but then they also have stuff like the T-shirt relay where you wear a massive shirt that holds you back quite a bit.”
