Rebecca Simpkins, Sports Editor

Rebecca Simpkins started Pirate Press second semester of the 2019-2020 year. She became interested in social media’s role in journalism and was one of the social media editor for two years. This year she is the sports editor. She also runs cross country, track, and plays soccer. Rebecca, also, leads FCA, is in BSAAC and NHS, and volunteers for Breakdown St. Louis.

Smith explained, "For this piece, I gathered an apple and a blue dropcloth. I used oil paints on canvas, which is the medium I prefer. In particular, the accentuation of the shading on the leaves and the apple
are represented well. My paintings can be categorized into portraits or still life, which I like to do the most. Inspiration comes from my real life, seeing the color and artistic aspects of everyday objects. Bringing a certain spotlight to seemingly insignificant objects brings emotion and feeling into life, making it less dull and humdrum. Rooting in realism, painting brings a heart to lifeless objects."

March 29 students resumed five day per week instruction. Different students and teachers shared their opinions, one teacher, Mr. Patrick said, “Any time that you see some type of major change you are going to see anxieties raise, and so initially you will see some people rather anxious and upset...we're going to be able to get over that, and it's going to take a bit of time.”
