Winter sports tryouts begin Oct. 30

As many fall sports come to the end of their seasons, it comes to the time for many winter athletes to gear up for their upcoming season. Boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, girls’ swimming, and wrestling open gyms have already commenced, and for many students, the winter sports season can be the highlight of their school year.

Lucy Bodde is a varsity swimmer on the girl’s swim team at Pattonville and is more than excited to start the season.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing all my teammates,” Bodde said. “They’re my best friends and I can’t wait to start the sport with them.”

She said she really hopes the team can win most of their meets and that they get someone to qualify for state.

“We have people on the team that have the potential to get state and if they do, it will be really exciting, and winning most of our meets will make the sport more enjoyable.

Junior point guard for the girls’ varsity basketball team Brooke Jenkins already has some insight as to how the season is going to go.

“I’m looking forward to the team bonding, all of us coming together, working hard, and playing our hearts out on the court every game,” she said. “I can’t wait to get out there and have fun and win some games.”

She said she hopes the team will go far this season.

“I think we have the talent and the depth this year to be successful. I think the team can win conference and compete for a state championship.”

Jenkins thinks the team will be super successful, and the odds will be good.

“I think we can compete with some of the best because each and every one of the girls on the team are capable of playing at a high level,” she said. “I think we’ll be holding a couple trophies this year.”
